Five wavelengths, and what each is doing

630nm & 660nm (visible red) — absorbed at skin and surface tissue; the most-studied band for skin

810nm, 830nm & 850nm (near-infrared) — invisible to the eye, penetrating several centimetres to reach muscle and joint tissue
More wavelengths isn't automatically better — what matters is having both the surface band and the deep band, and being able to run them separately. The Fraction does both.
Why the 30° lens matters
Cheap panels use wide 60–120° optics that scatter light across the room. A 30° beam angle concentrates output into the treatment area, which is why the irradiance holds up at distance instead of collapsing when you step back.

What the light actually does
Red and near-infrared light is absorbed by mitochondria, the structures that produce energy within cells — photobiomodulation, studied since the 1960s. Systematic reviews have examined its use for exercise performance and recovery, and clinical trials support its use in skin rejuvenation. Dose depends on intensity, distance and time together, which is why irradiance at treatment distance is the number that matters.
