Why the 30° lens matters
Most inexpensive panels use wide 60–120° optics, which scatter light across the room. A 30° beam angle concentrates the output into the treatment area, which is why the irradiance figure holds up at distance rather than collapsing the moment you step back. It's the least glamorous spec on the sheet and one of the most important.
Why both wavelengths
660nm red light acts on skin and surface tissue. 850nm near-infrared penetrates several centimetres deeper, reaching muscle and joint tissue. You can run either independently or both together, so a skin session and a recovery session aren't the same session.

What the light actually does
Red and near-infrared light is absorbed by mitochondria, the structures that produce energy within cells — a field known as photobiomodulation, studied since the 1960s. Systematic reviews have examined its use for exercise performance and recovery, and clinical trials support its use in skin rejuvenation. Delivered dose depends on intensity, distance and time together, which is why we publish irradiance measured at treatment distance rather than only at the LED surface.
